CEO of Waymo LLC
John Krafcik is the CEO of Waymo, a self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy to move people and things around. Building on software and sensor technology developed in Google’s labs, Waymo was formed in December
2016 with the goal to improve transportation for people around the world. Under Krafcik's leadership, Waymo has struck strategic partnerships with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and ride-sharing firm Lyft, as well as launching a public
trial of its self-driving minivans in Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Krafcik has long experience in both the automotive and technology space, including broad operating experience in engineering, product development, technology, and manufacturing,
with stints at NUMMI, Ford, Hyundai and TrueCar. Previously, Mr. Krafcik spent 10 years in leadership positions at Hyundai Motor America, including 5 years as president and CEO, where he was responsible for the strategic direction
and management of the company’s U.S. operations. Krafcik will assess trending technology and the potential of autonomous vehicles. Then AutoNation’s Mike Jackson and NADA’s Peter Welch (see below) will join him onstage to talk about
how dealers will drive the future of AVs.
Chairman, CEO & President, AutoNation, Inc.
Mike Jackson is widely regarded as one of our generation’s most influential and effective leaders in the automotive industry. As chairman, CEO and president of AutoNation, he has been singularly responsible for modernizing the automotive
retail business, introducing contemporary operational practices and delivering an unprecedented degree of customer service. As a result of his vision, AutoNation secured its position as America’s largest automotive retailer and distinguished
itself as the industry’s standard bearer for customer focus, transparency and corporate success. Previously, Jackson served as president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA where he oversaw the automaker’s U.S. sales operation and 311 franchised
dealerships. In that role, he helped create the vision and direction that led to the brand’s rejuvenation in the U.S. He has also served as chairman of the Mercedes-Benz National Dealer Council. Fittingly, it was at a Mercedes-Benz
dealership that Mr. Jackson began his automotive career as a dealership technician.
Peter K. Welch
President & CEO, NADA
NADA President and CEO Peter Welch will moderate a discussion with Krafcik and Jackson following Krafcik’s keynote remarks. The fireside chat, among other
questions, will highlight lessons learned and identify future opportunities and insights for new-car dealerships regarding self-driving vehicles.
2017 NADA Vice Chairman
Wes Lutz is president of Extreme Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, RAM Inc. in Jackson, Mich. He has been a Chrysler dealer since 1976. Lutz is 2017 vice chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association and represents Michigan's franchised new-car
